Sea Shell As Porcelain Blue Jewel *

I suppose I post this because it was difficult...to accomplish. First, the 70~200f4 seems to be back focusing...a millimeter or so when used as a macro lens at it's maximum possibility. Still, I knew there was a picture here to be found...so I oiled up the sea shell, shot it a half dozen more time, backed off the focus in manual just a tad, and then in PS, used my gray point to make the whole thing blue. I like the orange red version also, as well as the black/blue one. Eventually I'll make tiny ones for comparison and post them as a comment.

LOL...I finished up this Challenge in a hurry...raised eyebrows

Well, I have to agree with the others-- I kind of think for this challenge, for your shot to represent patterns, it probably needs to be cropped quite tightly. I've been coming back to look at this one over and over, because of the fascination I have for this piece-- the depth of the colors is just amazing. If I were you, it would drive me crazy to think about lopping off those cool outside edges, but maybe there's a workable compromise in there somewhere. ;-) --Nancy/odigi

Nice shell traveller. Yu have some great stuff. Whilst the man in me likes this the way it is, my femine side says crop.

What a beautiful shell! On the tad backfocusing - I've found lenses will do that near the min focus distance - they still autofocus but to the back - just before they get to the point where they won't focus at all. Maybe that was causing you trouble. I would like to see this shot - and I know - would need a macro lens to do it - but with a crop so tight there was nothing but shell in the frame. Cindy

nice shell, but *, it looks still soft... actually, what disturbs me are the reflections... maybe changing the light type and angle... btw, is it naturally so glaring or have it been painted?
