Thanks for the suggestion Ed. Will try that and see if that helps. This one is about 60 degrees to the camera. -Cat

Re: lighting - how about a single source light, directed at a shallow angle toward the tomato (e.g. just clearing the rim of the plate), from a spot a bit to the left or right of the camera? -Ed Hahn

Kelly,
Thanks for your comments.
You guessed it right that I had pre-sliced the tomato into 4 pieces before the shoot. They were stuck together by their own juices. The knive was used to seperate them and let them fall into 4 pieces. Tried leaving the samurai's cutlery in the frame with experimental shots. But I finally preferred keeping just a hint of its presence or leaving it a mystery as in here... White plate was chosen to avoid any distractions. Funny that it itself is a distraction. Would you suggest any other crop?
The light source was single 25W tungsten focus bulb. 6-7 ft away from subject.

Great idea! Tough to execute... and in just five seconds!!
What was your light source?
The bummer is the plate ends up getting all of the light and too much of my attention.
Was the tomato quartered before beginning the shot, held together through some unseen means and then the quarters allowed to fall?
Leaving the Samurai's cutlery in-frame in a before-after sense might have added a little something.
This makes me want to try it at home - but all we have are miniature tomatos ;)
