* Open Night *

Berkeley Hills

This is a crop from a panorama I shot friday night. This being my first attempt at this type of shot, I'm a little disappointed. I believe I under exposed by 1 or 2 stops, using exposure compensation in ACR really brought out the noise. Exposure data: f/8, 6s, ISO100. Next time I'll try f/4. I was set to f/8 since the previous shots were with the Sigma 70-300mm. I didn't need to stop down the 50mm to that extreme for sharpness, could of used the light. Let me know what you think and any advise.

I'm thinking the same thing dorys.

Last night it was pitch black, the clouds were more apparent. Now in day light they aren't noticable.

Although the hint of clouds is interesting, I think the scene is somewhat lost in all that negative space. My preference would be to leave only 1/3 of the negative space.

I appriciate the comments. It does have an unnatural "painted" look. I'll work on it later see if can produce a final image that's more natural looking. Anyone have any ideas? Less saturation and contrast?

The faint clouds add a lot to this image

I like this image - and I would look into using noise reduction software - invaluable for long exposures.

Dear Frank:
I prpbably like the image exactly for the reasons that you dislike it. It is a little un-real, more painterly than photographic...the colors too intense, somehow unreal, and yet, and yet...I believe that the image works very well.

If you can get 'em, take 'em, however you got there, a good image is a good image...say thanks to the muses for what you receive.

Best Wishes,
Traveller
