4th Place: Aurora Borealis

I FINALLY saw it! I'm 27 years old
and I'd never seen the Northern Lights ....

Until this photo :)

We were driving home from Illinois
when Joel pointed out the lights in the sky.
Luckily we were not more than 5 minutes away
from our home. As soon as we got here
I got my camera set up and started shooting away.
This was shooting straight up with my fisheye lens
to capture them... seemingly where they were starting.

It was like this was the core of it
and it was just spreading down from here.

Absolutely friggin beautiful.
I hope it's not another 27 years
until I see it again.

** UPDATE: I noticed that if you look at the photo
(it's easier to see with the thumbnail)
you can see the outline of Casper the Friendly Ghost
in the reddish areas! How funny! **

Fantastic, Angela. I live much more to the North and still I have not seen such wonder, not to this extent

This is beautiful Angela... and don't fret that it took you so long. I was in my 50s the first time I saw an aurora and it wasn't half as gorgeous as this one. Guess there is always something new to see and experrience no matter how ancient you get... lol, Ann C

Amazing image, Angela...
We saw it in Alaska several years ago, but nowhere near as dramatic as this. Glad you were not too far from your gear. ~Tim

Impressive presentation of an impressive spectacle in the sky, and yes, I can clearly see Casper ;-)
