Thanks for the comments guys - I agree about the lighting suggestion, that was sort of how I'd originally envisaged this shot, but unfortunately it was "on location", I only had about 5 minutes to take it (kids!), it was getting dusky outside and the only light source I had with me was the built in flash! I'd like to re-shoot, but don't think I'll get a chance.

No I don't think it is too dark, the main focus is the newspaper , now that you mentioned it this would have worked really well with a darker background and light streaming onto the paper.

Clever, and gives me a chance to off load my original and in hindsight ridiculus idea fr this theme. A (red?)copy of Das Kapital being dropped in a (red) bin with the title "Read It". Now that i've got that off my chest maybe i can move on with the rest of my life. :)

Keep up the good work

thubleau, thanks for your comments and suggestions, used the magnetic lasso and copied to a new layer. I'll have another play with croping if I get a chance. Does this seem too dark? On my home monitor it seems fine, but at work, way too dark. Obviously some calibration issues to work out - but which (if either) is "right"? Thanks. Adam

There you go,nicely done except maybe cropping at the top and bottom would have balanced this out better , but well done and subtle.

Ahhhh.......sorry............but not so about your skills just knock all the channels back except the red and see what happens and then if needed try using the magnetic or polygon lasso to isolate it.

Name added - your comment was too fast for me - I'd only just uploaded and was still renaming etc! The strap band across the top of the newspaper is actually red and I was going to try to leave that, but my photoshop skills (or lack of) are not good enough!
