very nice car nudity :)

Wonderful for all the reasons already given. I like the tyre tracks which somehow look like somebody screeched into the garage and was in too much of a hurry to cover her up properly. She (?) seems almost slightly neglected or held captive somehow????

Striking. And thank you so much for sharing the painting with light technique. I've never tried that before in PS and can see many uses. Cindy

To put my comment below in perspective, maybe I should add that I am not a car-enthusiast - I don't even own one...
Guest 29-Apr-2005 14:45
Louise, you are not the only one to think so. That was my first reaction to this shot as well. To me it is not about the car (even if it IS an expensive Italian Stallion). It is the suggestiveness of the half revealed buttocks . Don't think I should need to spell it out more?

Grant, I dare to say this photo is almost sexy ..... Sexy car ? Maybe funny but that's the way it makes me feel. Amazing post-processing work ! Bravo !
Guest 27-Apr-2005 23:33
Thanks for the kind words. Angela and Teapot, it is kinda funny that most of what comes out of my camera is pretty boring. I don't have a studio or any real experience with lights so I make do with photoshop. I can "see" an interesting photo in the bland output from my camera now but it wasn't easy at first. I think you guys are much better at making the photo in the camera. But then again you have snoots and brollys.

Imressive image. It has the feel of a large bilboard ad.

Damn Grant. To see the original and to see this -- Wow, I love what you did with it. Talk about great vision before even executing the shot. Thanks for showing that! (And *your* painting with light technique sounds neat! I'm going to have to try that.)

Had a good look at the gallery today (Tuesday) and this for me is still the bar in this challenge. The ability to see a shot like this from your original subject is outstanding.
Teapot.

Grant,

Great photo! This one really caught my eye because I expected the car to be red, not the cover.

You've done an amazing job with the PP. Thanks for the explanation. I'll have to try some "painting with light".

Here is what came out of the camera for those of you interested in the amount of post processing.

Post processing was significant since this actually started out as a candid of my daughter.

All I did was a little painting with light in photoshop and the usual levels adjustment and sharpening. For those of you unfamiliar with painting with light (not like the kind Angela does), you make a new layer on top of your image and fill it with 50% grey. Then set the layer type to Soft Light. Then paint on that grey layer with a black or white brush to darken or lighten parts of your image. It is best to use a big brush with soft edges. You can also adjust the light layer's opacity to suit the image. That is how I got the walls to look so grimy.

I agree with most earlier comments - a great image. One or two have commented on the PP - how much (and what) PP did you do? AdamSC8

Spiderman's new addition to his car collection, unvailed for the first time? :-)
Great entry, Grant!! I could also see this as a selective color image... with the car and car cover in color and the walls in stark B & W. Great work. Markjay

Absolutely outstanding image! My hat is off you you!!! ~ Lonnit

I haveto agree with all the others, the icon does this no credit to this shot, you have to open this image to see what you get. It's almost pornographic - doh did a write that:-/ Just like cars and red drapes I guess.:)

Thanks everybody. I am kinda surprised by how much I like this too. I shot this a sort of a throwaway just because the challenge theme was "red". I like how it turned out though.

I think you achieved the look and feel you were after, Grant. And to be honest, I thought "coffin" the first time I saw the thumb too! I like the starkness of this.
Guest 25-Apr-2005 10:22
A cut away from the everyday. I do, however, feel as though I'm looking up someone's skirt...

Great lighting and composition. Like the way the tail light is peeping out. - RK

Great shot Grant; actually it reminds me of The Vampire Lestat for some strange reason; it has that feel to it..... wonder why? ;-) Love this one.

Cheers, Vikas.

Outstanding! (.....and nothin" blurred as far as I can see) LOL Shu

Grant, I like everything about this image. For example, I like the way the cover looks like silk, the texture on the walls and floor, the amount of the car covered. And of course I like the car itself. Are you fortunate enough to drive this beauty on sunny days? Wonderful image! -Earl Waud

Great image. Has a dramatic feel to it from deep shadows and the car looks menacing. Will make a great cover for a horror fiction book
Guest 23-Apr-2005 14:58
Thu- That is funny about the coffin. I agree it looks like that from the thumb.
Traveller- I was going for that look. Glad it worked. Our garage is so dirty (even though it is new) and I wanted to contrast that with the clean car.
Fly- Thanks for the compliment. Yes, it is my picture.
iso- I tried it without the right hand wall and it lost the "garage-ness" and didn't look quite right. I was trying to make it look kind of dark and look like it was out of "Halo" or something. BTW, congrats on smoking the exhibition category in the last Challenge.

This image looks a bit special. For once not the red of a Ferrari that steals the limelight. Great PP and a lovely ambience. Looks almost CG. I might have cropped a bit of the right hand wall. Hard to tell though.
Canon DSLR Challenge23-Apr-2005 11:56
Nice picture and car. Yours? theFly
Canon DSLR Challenge23-Apr-2005 05:34
Ohhhhhh, I do like this! The PP almost makes this look...toy like, with a certain plastic scheen...and I don't mean that badly. This feels as though it is out of some darkish Batman movie.

Very Nice!

Traveller

You sucked me in Grant.
It looked like a coffin draped with a red cape and I thought,"don't tell me he has vampires in his family!"
I just had to have a closer look and I like the galloping horse as well.
