It is always the 3rd choice that is so difficult. Your last image in this Gallery...girls in red dresses, fire engines or stained glass? We humans are superstitious, almost automatically. Someone called today frantic because a bird flew accidentally into his car while he was driving. Like a bird in the house, a portend of death? I would have laughed, but, I remembered how compulsively I throw a pinch of salt over my shoulder when I spill some. We are not so far away from our cave dwelling ancestors as we may wish to believe.

This was taken in the Atlantic Rain Forest, in the Mountains outside of Rio de Janeiro. Dozens of these little shrines line the highway leading high up into the forests. What do they mean? What human function do they serve? A wish for a happy and fruitful marriage, in this instance, because of the Husband and Wife figures off to the right.

I do hope that the God’s do smile upon their union. And a little offering can’t hurt...lol
