This crescent moon is one day old, 28 hours past new moon, the thinnest crescent moon I have ever noticed. The lunar disk is about 1% illuminated, however the unlit face is faintly visible due to earthshine (sunlight reflected off earth and lighting the "dark side" of the moon). Photo was taken about 45 minutes after sunset.
