young moon *

Greene County, Southwestern Pennsylvania

This crescent moon is one day old, 28 hours past new moon, the thinnest crescent moon I have ever noticed. The lunar disk is about 1% illuminated, however the unlit face is faintly visible due to earthshine (sunlight reflected off earth and lighting the "dark side" of the moon). Photo was taken about 45 minutes after sunset.

I love the moon in this shot, simply stunning. The shadow of the earth is remarkable. I really like the jet trail too.

Wow, this almost looks like a composite. Beautiful catch. Cindy
