Alternative title: Planetarium on a Budget. Someone below said "fun". Agreed. Great idea and execution. --Joe

Thanks for the suggestion Phil and Mark. If I get time I will mess around with that some. I like the way the color in the corner sets off the collandar, but on the other hand I can see your point. I'll see if I can give it a try. Cindy

CindyD, you have a very visually interesting image you created here! The purple color was a very good choice to contrast with the black and I like the composition as well. What you may want to consider doing (your call) is
filling in the bottom left corner with black or a dark purple hue so as to remove the distraction of the white light.

Gotta agree with everyone - very striking and effective.
Is it worth cloning out the lower left to make that black also? Phil

Gosh, thanks for the nice comments. It really is a simple image. I just looked for something mundane that could be glitzed up a bit for this challenge, and spoted the stars on the collander sitting on my kitchen counter. lol. I hung the collander upside down on a mini tripd and clamped a flashlight to the leg for light. These colors come from 2 white balance settings on 2 different conversions of the same file - a very orange one as the base layer and a very blue one layered on top in "multiply" mode. That deepened the shadows and gave me more colors to play with. (I actually tried all the blending modes and got some REALLY wild color combos!). Then I flattened layers and slid the hue thingy around until I got this wild purple/pink thing. I chose it because it is so garish . . . kind of like disco. lol

Olaf - I'm not worried - YOU haven't enetered yet!!!! :) Cindy

Cindy, I keep comming back to this and I just fugured out why...

1) The Purple light and patters are amazing
2) The creativity (A+)
3) The biggy : The Star shaped cutout on the collandar, the pseudo galaxy on the wall...now that is the icing on the cake which I didn't "grasp" before...sure I saw it....but that is why I like it a lot.

How did you do it?

:-D
