Thank you Earl and Michael! I've tried what you suggest, but really don't like it. To me it is essential for the composition that there is more empty space above than below the basket. I might try to lighten the dark band at the top and see how that works. By the way, I know it looks like a floor, but actually it is a very rustic tabletop! OK, I brightned up the dark band at the top of the image some. Also made the black frame around the image thinner. - Olaf.dk

By the GODS! I think Earl is right on the money here. Crop the black border (or cover it up with your hands) and you can see the subject goes RIGHT BACK to the yarn and lighted floors!!!
Olaf, I am wondering if the image would be slightly improved by cropping out the dark band at the top of the image. It would make the rest of the floor more of an "even" background for the basket. -Earl Waud
Michael, thank you for your feedback! I can definitely see what you are saying. When I saw this, I was mainly attracted by the light, but also the colors and textures. It was shot during the "Wide Aperture" challenge and hence I was experimenting with shooting wide open. As the basket with the yarn was the only thing on the table, that seemed the obvious thing to focus on... Really, this was taken in a hurry without much analysis. You see the circumstances were such that I was alone with my three-year-old son at this open air museum (very active little fellow - hard to keep up with - if you know what I mean?). Also, as it was taken at a museum, I didn't feel it was appropriate to move the basket around. Still am kind of fond of the result, even if I do see what you mean by the eyes being drawn to the lighter areas of the frame. Maybe the title is wrong - I had a hard time coming up with something - but maybe "Rustic" would be better because it applies more to the whole image instead of just the yarn balls? - Olaf.dk

This is a beautiful image but I keep getting drawn to the background light rather than the yarns. Is that your intentions?
