Sub Zero (*)

Harrison Lake, Canada

The road running up Harrison Lake puts on this majestic show every winter. The falls are approximately 40 feet high, and are in constant shadow. This is just one small section of the falls.
Although the temp outside was hovering around 0 celsius (not toooo cold), the gusting winds of 40-60 km/p/h brought the temp down to around -15C. Staying upright, and steady, was difficult. I would like to have stayed longer and played around with composition, but it was just tooooooo cold - I ran home for hot chocolate!! :-)

Great color on the ice. Very common picture here

Olaf - you're a genius!! Through all my playing with curves etc, I never even thought about the saturation, which is often the first thing I do - doh!! I've heeded your suggestions, but just changed the numbers slightly. Strange though, in PS, and my print out, it seems much more vivid than my upload to the gallery here - maybe the saturation gremlins at work :-) Tracy!

Tracy, I tried adding two adjustment layers and liked the result: a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, +40 on the saturation and on top of that a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer, +10 on the contrast. Try it and see what you think! --Olaf.dk

Gayle... I know what you mean about the contrast, but when I added more (tried several techniques), it just blew out the whites, and made the icicles look like little jaggies. These falls are in constant shade, so that is why there is no nice sparkle. In hindsight, I should have had my flash with me, and that probably would have helped immensely - I wasn't planning on going to the falls when I did, I just kinda landed up there. If I do go back, I will definitely take the flash, but it's soooooooooooo cold out there, I really don't know if I wanna try it again just yet... maybe next year - Cheers - Tracy!

Tracy, this looks like it needs a bit of a contrast boost. The ice doesn't sparkle as much as it should. Nice composition though....and it looks COLD!!!
