This was in a Cafe close to Elefteria Square, Nicosia, Cyprus. Caught this candid when the waiter got my son a Donut. He held it up as he thought it matched his shirt. Used the Kent C action from http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm#LensBlur to get a Lensbaby effect. Edge Action from http://www.liknes.no/photoshop/index.asp

Lonnit, for me the challenge of writing the filter would be half the fun. Chromatic distortion shouldn't be difficult to simulate. -- Victor

Lonnit is right. Getting the general feel in a picture of a lensbaby effect is relatively easy to do... no actions needed. What does take a bit of skill is seeing as a lensbaby sees. After studying several lensbaby shots on the lensbaby site and Anders postings, I tried to take some photos with my regular lens but thinking as if I had a lensbaby. The only reason I even bothered doing this was because I haven't had enough money to get the real thing yet. It's about changing perspectives, not so much about having an effect. Don't bother guys. Byron has a technique he's been using that comes incredibly close already. Why re-invent the wheel? ;) Just ask him how. One thing you're forgetting about though, is that I doubt anyone will be able to reproducet the chromatic abberations of the lensbaby. ~ Lonnit

I might try my hand at creating a filter (not an action) to do this. If someone could email me some pictures taken with a lensbaby that would get me started. Perhaps a good place to start would be to have 3 images: one a bulls eye pattern centered on the center of symmetry of the lensbaby. Another with radial lines. And another with small dots arranged far enough apart that the lensbaby effect doesn't overlap for any of the dots. -- Victor

I instigated Kent to write the Lensbaby action just before my business trip to Cyprus a month back. Please see http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1006&message=10929209 andhttp://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1006&message=11107581 I agree that the action needs some tweaking to come closer to a real lensbaby. This was done by the Beta Version that Kent e-mailed me. I understand that ATNCENTRAL has a newer version that is more "radial" than "Linear" Would appreciate if someone could give Kent some pics of same scene taken with/without Lensbaby so that we can tun the actions on the withouts and see how close they can be made to the withs. Would also value your comments to Kent about what other differences you detect between the action and the real thing. ( I believe it is possible to get 100% the same effect via S/W with added advantage of it being a post process rather than a one off at the moment shot) --Wonderstruck

Cute shot, cute kid. As for the lensbaby action, it's not really very lensbaby. Lensbaby distortions aren't so linear and they seem to make my eyes feel like they pulse when I look at the shots. This action doesn't. Still a cute shot though. :) ~ Lonnit
