Can't beat a bit of politics to stir up the comments, eh? All we need is some sex and religion and we'll have a full house... Phil

Larry it's a shame that you feel one funny entry has voided the merrits of this entire challenge. I don't see how this "fear" shot is any different from the "fear" shot of the bird with the fish in its mouth. Fear is different to each person.

Mike, my politcal views didn't get in the way, they actually were the only cause for my LIKING the shot! LOL! I don't care for the shot artistically but I think it was a very funny entry for the challenge and I got a kick out of it. :) I won't vote for the entry b/c I belive the vote should be based on artistic merrit and not humor for humor's sake. I will vote in the challenge and I will vote in the election. :)

Victor I think we share the same view on the matter. Also whether a photo is political or not is also very much in what context it's placed. If the Challenge instead of "The Dark Side" had been "Street Signs" the meaning of this photo had been another... =) /Jonas

I also am a bit tired by now of seeing references to the US elections everywhere, but I still enjoyed this photo. I think it's well done, the blurriness and the menacing red glow nicely support the statement behind the image, which I very much agree with, by the way.

Jonas, I think your final sentence is key. It's not the photo here that's scary, it's the thought behind it that is. That makes the picture more political than art. I agree it's possible to have excellent political photography, but I think this one misses the mark. -- Victor

I dont't agree with people who thinks great photos can't or should'nt be political or for that matter religous. For me great photos touches me. Shakes my foundation. Makes me happy or angry or even make me react. The meening of this photo makes goose pimples on my arms. I just wish the photo it self did it as well. /Jonas

You're right. This picture does seem a bit out of focus, but that's hardly reason to avoid the whole challenge (yes, I know you weren't talking about the focus of the picture -- I couldn't help myself). -- Victor

SHEESH! Even this challenge is a platform for political rhetoric. There are plenty of places on the Internet to express political views and I don't think this challenge is one of them. IMHO this image should remain and all non-constructive feedback including my comments should be deleted. As for me, I'll skip this challenge and hope that the next challenge gets back on focus. - Larry

bee1000 here (don't let the username fool you): I don't mean to offend anyone (well maybe I do - to me that's part of being an artist). This is mainly the result of being frustrated with challenge themes lately. I didn't think I'd be entering this one, but I looked through the gallery and figured I could doctor up a photo and make it look scary, even if it wasn't scary in real life (your opinion may vary!). I had just taken some yardsign shots as inspired by Victor's post at the end of the last challenge, and decided to see what I could create for this challenge. Voila! See a few others here:http://imageevent.com/merritt/yardsigns

I'll cross post them on Victor's link, too.

A friend of my brother's had the idea to start a collection of these. The election is drawing near so if the collection is to be significant, it needs contributions soon. If anyone wants to contribute, drop me an email.http://www.pbase.com/yardsigns is the pbase account. -- Victor

Bee1000 - Check out this house on the corner of Meade and Texas in North Park. San Diego has some die hard Bush supporters that have been around for a long time :) - Ralph
