I made another go at shooting this shot, but the new pictures fared no better than this one. I was in too much of a rush, and I ran into problems with using two flashes, setting up a cardboard mask, peering through a hole, etc., etc. I know I can make a much better image, but not in a rush. So this one stays. -- Victor

I was originally going to do the other eye looking in the same direction, but I felt the composition of this eye worked better. BTW, I think another change I will make is to use the 12X Raynox lens instead of the 6X lens. That way I won't have to crop it. -- Victor

Anna, I left that out, but it was actually on my list. I have to figure out a way to get the light where I want it. It will probably end up involving using two flashes, one as a slave. -- Victor

Very cool shot. Yes your own suggestions for change sound good. A bit more light on the eye itself would also be good.

I need to redo this. I plan to make the following changes on the reshoot: 1) Change background to a dark one, 2) Shoot through a black mask to cut down on camera/photographer reflection -- already did this to some extent, but not good enough, 3) Aim auxillary light into eye to constrict pupil, 4) Change lighting angle to better illuminate iris. -- Victor
