The red cherry? seems to be floating above the dessert. Way to watch those calories!

This is it guys. I want the focus on the calories. I'd rather lose weight than face. Shu

I like the previous version better. Whereas the previous version was centered on the cherry. This one seems to be focused on the list. If that's the intention, fine, but I preferred the other one. -- Victor

Wow I like this better now Shu. Can you tilt the paper a bit so that more light falls on the writing?
Anna Yu14-Oct-2004 18:59
Reshooting depends on the amount of ice cream you have left, as well as your patience, Shu. A relentless and patient photographer gets the shot in the end. (I'm a little philosophical tonight)

Thanks, Anna. You're right on the mark! I may reshoot or just scrap the d--- thing. (And I thought photography was easy.........LOL) Shu

Shu, I love the red, white and black, very stark colors. Compositionally (only my opinion) I think there is too much empty space between the bowl and the paper in the corner. Since the calory information is an important part of this image it should have been given more space, or placed closer. The use of softer light would have been good for bringing out the texture in the icecream.

Still a very visible halo, I'm afraid. Phil
Canon DSLR Challenge13-Oct-2004 14:52
I took the halo out and darkened the cherry. Yes, it was included in the shot. The whiteness of the ice cream is also correct. My problem is with the space between the calorie notes and the left side of the bowl and also not enough space at the top. The composition doesn't seem right to me. Since I really like this shot, I want to use it, but I may not have the time to reshoot. Lack of experience in PS is hampering my ability to show the image the way I intended. I may try to do it over if I get the chance. I do appreciate your critiques! Shu

Is the cherry really there or added after? It looks unreal, but I can't decide if that's because the rest is desaturated. Regardless, the blue ring around the cherry isn't helping. Phil

Let's see if I can contribute something of value before someone else does. There's a blue halo around the cherry. This is probably because of applying USM to it. Try making the adjustment just to the lightness. This way, you won't color the ice cream. But that's not a composition comment.

I'd like to see more of the spoon. Also, I think it might work better if the spoon handle went to the corner of the picture, opposite the nutritional components list. I don't think the framing works very well here. The subject is one that would probably work well centered left to right, as with my "Milk" picture. It might also work shifted more to the side, but I don't think it works almost centered like this. Finally, I think another background would probably work better. Maybe something with no texture or even lighting on both sides of the ice cream. I'd also consider leaving the color of the ice cream as well. I know you're trying to emphasize the cherry, but is the ice cream not just as tempting as the cherry? And if it's vanilla ice cream, the extra color I think would be subtle enough not to distract from your attempt. -- Victor

Does anyone want to comment on the composition of this image? I'm not quite comfortable with it. Shu
