Jeff, hate to be so picky, but I agree with Lonnit that you need to sharpen the scarecrow a bit more than this. But I like this version better than the first one.

looks good but this time you were gunshy with the sharpening. Still needs sharpening. I like the shot though. Funny, I just did a pumpkin picking shot yesterday and I got some dark shots too. I liked them. I'm just about to enter one. ~ Lonnit

Thanks for all your suggestions. Nothing I can do about the crop but I've reworked the image in several other ways. Comments? -- Jeff

Nice feel to this - very "fall". The top crop is a little tight for my tastes, but the crispness of the figure mostly makes up for that little nit.

Well, despite others negativity, I like it! My only comment would be that maybe it's cropped too tightly as the scarecrow is touching the frame edge. Phil

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I'm on the road right now so I'm working with a limited kit and my laptop. I plan to rework the image when I get home. I knew I should have brought my tripod/polarizer/neutral density filter, etc!

What's wrong with blowing up pumpkins? Sorry... guess you said blown out. This is my favourite image here so far (great time for it). I agree that the scarecrow does look a little sharp (but wouldn't have really noticed it if it had not been brought up). If you can, make the foreground brighter, I think the light on the pumpkins is perfect (imho). Cheers, Jeff

Lonnit, I think exposing longer would have blown out the pumpkins. The largest pumpking is already clipped. Perhaps if a polarizer had been used to eliminate the glare on the pumpkins a longer exposure would have worked. -- Victor

Agreed. Here too you've oversharpened. Personally I tend to prefer softness to oversharpening. I don't recall this being a problem with your images in the past. Why is it happening now? The compostion is good and the subject insteresting enough but it's also a bit dark. (I don't know if I can judge brightness right now though b/c microsoft XP service pack 2 blew up my motherboard causing me to have to reformat the hard drive, and I'm just starting to upload my software back in to the computer. I've not gotten in any calibration settings yet.) Using a longer exposure would have brightened it up and perhaps got a bit of motion blur in the stuff hanging off the arms which could have given it a feel of coming alive and moving! ~ Lonnit

That background is wonderful Jeff, but if you don't mind a small suggestion, I think the scarecrow is a bit oversharpened. If you can fix this I would think this is a strong contender.
