Disconcerted Boy*
by Vikas

I liked the Graphic patterns on this boy's shirt and the graphical qualities of his cap. This was taken on the steps of a place of worship where I was trying my hand at street photography. Had the challenge in mind and when I saw this boy wearing this shirt/cap, wanted to take his pic. Actually, he was looking the other way and I had my lens pointed at him, willing for him to turn around which he finally did for a split second and I pressed the shutter. Guess that is the reason for his disconcerted gaze, anyone would be if they turned around and had a lens pointing at them. :-) Cheers.

Whoooops, typo... the last line should be, that is what makes 'us' individuals. Sorry about that. :-)

Thanks for your comment ISO and hey, certainly not out of line. My take on this pic being graphic was pretty much derived from Olaf's despcription of what would constitute a graphic pic as per his challenge guidelines. Guess I was trying to look for 'graphic' in less ordinary places and came up with this one. But then, I think that, 'interpretation' lies in the eyes of the beholder and one can and one should look at a photograph accordingly to what it means to him or her. After all, that is what makes is 'individuals'. :-) Thanks again.

Cheers. Vikas.

Well I've thought long and hard about commenting on this image, and it looks like I'll be way out of line to say that I can't get a graphic connection from this at all. Don't get me wrong, I think its a good picture. The expression and candid nature make it what it is. A shame though about the other guys elbow or whatever that is in the foreground.

When I see this image, all I see are the subjects *environmental portrait* or *candids*. Your other 2 images are stronger in the context we're all playing in.

Well you did have a * by it :)

I have admired your work for sometime. Do you have a website where I could see more of it?

Thank you Shu, it was fun trying to find graphics in places where one normally doesn't look. .... Vikas

Vikas --I'm thoroughly entertained by your different slant on the "graphic" and the commentary following it. You show us what's possible in photography and leave some of us
with our tongues hanging out. Shu

Olaf, forgot to add, will try and come up with my third entry more on the lines of what you expected from me. :-)

Cheers. Vikas.

Thanks Olaf......

You are right, initially I had all sorts of ideas based on clean images with graphic qualities and different shapes but then realised that I had already done that before and honestly, that was too obvious. It would be just too easy to go out and shoot some great pattern on the floor (hopefully with a person walking across and shadow falling, whcih now on hindsight would make a great pic actually, :-) or of course, amazing modern architecture with perhaps some reflections, or some studio shots with great coloured backdrops giving it that POP; which I personally think is wonderful; but as I said, 'been there, done that'. I wanted to go beyond the 'normal' and try and find graphic qualities in photos where one wouldn't normally look for them, actually where I wouldn't look for them. That was my personal challenge to myself which is why I embarked on this mission last Sunday and came up with the two entries in this challenge. Just my 'different' interpretation of your theme. :-)

Vikas, this is a great street-photograph and I really like the boy's expression! To be honest, I am a bit surprised by your submissions in this challenge. When I thought of the photoGRAPHIC theme, before the end of the previous challenge, I especially imagined you, MarkJay, Roberta, bee1000 and iso3200 having a definite advantage, judging from your very clean and graphic photos in past challenges. In this challenge, you seem to look for graphic subjects, whereas I was imagining _making_ photos graphic, through simplification, abstraction and composition. Your interpretations of the graphic theme are interesting - you are expanding my view of what makes a photo graphic! --Olaf
