Thanks for including a link to the other picture for those of us who missed the discussion! I agree the original version is better. -- Victor

This is just great; the understated background works very well, and though I missed the discussion below, I prefer this version. I also love the way you've caught him with flaps deployed, gear down and locked.

Thanks Roberta, I think I prefer this one (the original) too.
However, as you say, it's always worth trying things (certainly, the extra work on my Heron has produced a better image).
For those that missed it, the rotated version is now viewable here:http://www.pbase.com/image/32634990

Phil,
After viewing both images I have to agree with Clovis. It gives it a bit of visual tension and energy that adds to the image. I also prefer the wing closer to the corner. It's always good to try various ideas anyway. Well now that I gave you some extra work, lol, you can switch it back if you want to :) Thanks for showing us both. Roberta

Rotated as suggested - I'd never considered it before! I'm not 100% convinced it's better though, the crop is difficult as the upper part of the wing is the edge of the frame. The original was also noise-reduced and I'm not sure I've managed to get the effect as good on this attempt... your comments appreciated as always.
(Again, original is viewable athttp://www.pbase.com/image/22982015/original ). Phil

I actually like the off-levelness (?) It gives the photo a kind of flustered look like the bird is flying all over the frame... :)
Great shot!

Actually, this shot would have worked well in the "Inclined" challenge if you straightened the bird's wings to horizontal... - Ed Hahn

Lovely contrast, I agree with Roberta on tilting the reflections horizontally. - Karthik.

Phil,
I love the angle and the clarity of the gull as well as the contrast of the gull against the dark background. Did you crop it? The reason that I ask is because if you did, I would make the water reflections true horizontal. Not sure if they would really be horizontal but it might improve the image IMO. Roberta
