Built in 1917 as an experimental ship design (because of a wartime shortage of iron),
the cement ship was bought by an amusement company in 1930. The engines were removed,
and it was towed to Seacliff beach in California to be used as a restauraunt and tourist attraction.
After a heavy storm cracked the ship in half, it was closed for safety reasons.
My family has been spending summers at seacliff beach for the last several decades,
and we have great memories of fishing off the pier (as well as watching the ship slowly return to nature).
