Love in Bloom *

Sankt Annæ Plads, Copenhagen

In Danish I would say "Blomstrende Kærlighed" which would be "Blooming Love", directly translated.
Not sure it works as well in English though, but the meaning would be something like Flourishing Love -
"Blomstrende" being derived from the word "blomst", which means flower.

Anyways, went out during my lunch-break, seeking some love to shoot. Thought I might find some at a
nearby park, but no lovers were out at lunch-time - except for this tulip couple caressing in the breeze.

One of the tulips looks like it's been kissed by someone wearing red lipstick. -- Victor

Yes that looks more natural than my version, but then I'm not very good at Photoshop ;-) No matter what it's a beautiful picture and the tulip season is very short.

OK Anna, I have now updated the image... I didn't want the darkening of the background to be too obvious and unnatural, so I had to work it quite a bit before I came to this. I ended up with a whole bunch of adjustment layers with different masks, and had a really hard time deciding whether each adjustment layer was an improvement or not - finding the right combination. I ended up using both some hard edged and some soft-edged masks. I decided against cropping at the bottom. Instead I cloned some of the purple flowers over to take away that bright spot (tulip) in the lower left corner. For the record, here is the originally posted photo:

Anna, thank you SO much for your comments, time and effort!!! I really appreciate it! What you don't know, is that I had the same idea of darkening the background a bit, so your comment and edit of the photo, really just confirmed that I wasn't totally off in my original thoughts. I tried darkening the background, before posting the photo here, but with a hard-edged mask instead. I didn't have the time to make a good hard-edged mask/selection and chose to just post it as it was instead. Your soft-edged vignetting works great, and is a lot less time consuming, so I just might do that! I felt that maybe I was stretching the theme a bit with this shot, so thought that I might replace it with something more on-topic. As I haven't gotten anything else worth posting, nor more on-topic, I guess this one will stay where it is - and then it will be more worth putting some time into it. Again: thanks! --Olaf

Hope you don't mind me playing around with your picture. My suggestion is

On the contrary, it fits well with the topic Olaf. I was admiring the delicate colors you've captured here, in spite of the bright sunlight. The 2 "kissing" tulips could be more highlighted so that they stand out better against the pink background, I think. Love tulips and I'm going out for more tulip shots today!
