* Rained Out by Lonnit Rysher
[8th place]

Alley Pond Park, Queens, NY

First there was the motion of the game that drew me in, then there was the motion of the light rain when it turned to a downpour... then there was the motion of me running back to my car to save a couple grand worth of gear! LOL! I had a baggie on the camera, but as you see by the motion of the rain, it was way to risky to be out in that kind of a downpour.

Thanks Roberta, Olaf, Ann & Mike. :) Actually I'd already enriched the tones as it was lighter and hazier. I didn't want it to become too heavy and dark though b/c it loses the fogginess of the atmosphere.

Lonnit,
I like it as is. Love the mood and lighting. Roberta

Lonnit, great shot! Again, probably partly due to different screens and/or gamma values, but I would like this to be much darker and richer in its tones. I downloaded it and tried applying some curves to it. I liked it with two points on the curve: one at input/output 101/52 and the other at 205/205. Maybe not to you liking, but I definitely thought it was an improvement. --Olaf

Any room for another comment... lol. Well, I have to agree with all the other folks about how beautiful this is. The balance of the composition is good. The background out of focus except for the rain is perfect. The color and lighting are just right. Yes, I agree with all. This is a wonderful photograph Lonnit. Ann C

Thank GOODNESS!!!! I was so proud of this one and so terrified it might just be another no-commenter, and I would have been broken hearted! I loved the motion of the rain and the story the shot tells and the depth. This one felt special. I'm thrilled to see the reaction already even though it's just up a few (sleepy!) hours. That gust of wind you just felt was me breathing a sigh of relief! This shot has rejuvenated me that I CAN do this! It's in me, I just need to shoot more and look for these opportunities. The risk factor made a difference - you see that pouring rain I'm in, no umbrella, just a soaking wet baggie on the camera! After I shot this I couldn't risk it anymore, shoved the camera under the front flap of my raincoat and ran for the car!

Teapot, that is an incredible compliment and so thrilling to me b/c I'm exhuberant about shooting in the rain! Thank you so much!

Thank you Garrett, and Vikas. :)

Tobias, my frames seem to frequently be controversial! LOL! I don't care so much about the frame but am thrilled you like the shot. That's what really counts. Thank you! :)

~Lonnit, who's regained her enthusiasm!

This is excellent Lonnit. One of the best rain shots I've ever seen.
