I miss the old road. It's still there, but they don't let you on it. I enjoyed looking over at both sides from atop the dam. Of course the barriers on the sides were so high you couldn't see much. This picture was taken from the base of one of the pillars supporting the new bridge just downstream of the dam. You can see the pillers as a prominent part of my other entry. -- Victor

Great shot Victor, assuming this is the lake austin side, I use to totally panic going over this when it was that narrow two lane job. The little creatures do give a sense of scale. Looks like a cloudy day, so you didn't get glare off the water.

Joe,
Thanks for the comment. To fully appreciate the scale, see also my Mansfield Dam entry. In it, you can see a row of holes, only one of which is visible in this photo. I just looked up the dimensions of the dam: 278 feet high, 7,089.39 feet long, 213 feet thick at the base, 30 feet thick at the top. BTW, don't miss the turtles. -- Victor
Victor: Great capture. The flock of birds give it scale, enormity. On the thumbnail, I assumed they were aphids or the like (*sMiLe*). I like the composition as well. Nice. --Joe
