What's inside a red LED, probably the most common red light source today.
Reversed Oly OM 50mmm at F/5.6 on Canon 100 macro, on extension tubes on 1.4X tele extender.
Incandescent lamp illuminated the support structure. PS used to bring up the dark areas and sharpen. The led was high brightness clear one with flat area ground and polished on the enclosure.

I purposely did NOT read your caption to see if I could "figure it out" first.... I failed LOL. I would never have guessed this is an LED light. Markjay

Haha! I knew this was an LED as soon as I saw it. (Yes, I'm a nerd.) Damn, that's a closup shot! Then I read your setup and I was immediately surprised that I had seen almost that exact setup on pBase before... some guy named DWarner... hey, it's you!

I've been admiring your macro gallery ever since I discovered pbase. You've got some awsome shots in there!
