Mark, I tried that too but the color on the straws was almost lost. Maybe a more powerful maglight shining up from the bottom. Also, thanks for your comment on my galleries! That seagull shot was taken in a parking lot! All my beach seagulls were washed out but the shots in the Burger King parking lot were the best. Maybe it was the fries! Thanks, Roberta

You're such a creative mind ;-) Might I suggest another approach? Maybe turn out the house lights all but the bottom backlight... and see whatcha get from there? :-) Markjay

A circular hole might work. Or a piece of colored glass in front of the light box. Or some translucent paper. Or some interesting material, muslin or such.

Anna, I would not be able to use black as a background for this shot because the light shining through the straws is from a light box placed underneath the glass bowl. Maybe I could cut a circular hole in the center of a piece of black paper...hummmm....new idea! Roberta

Nicely done Roberta! I'd like to see the image a little smaller so that I don't have to scroll to flip back and forth on my screen. The medium size view option is too small for me to appreciate you beautiful work. Please tell us about your light setup.

Roberta, that's a very good idea for a difficult subject. You might consider making the background darker or black, in order to emphasize the light coming through the straws, I think. /Anna
