Thank you everyone for the nice comments. The lighting comes from what was available. I shot this in an informal setting inside a friend's home. There was a sunroom letting in a fair amount of daylight to the left, front; and some late afternoon light coming in from a window above, behind and slightly to the left of the subject, thus highlighting the hair. I tried some with a fill flash and didn't like the results.
I was basically just there talking with this child and her family, and shooting as inconspicuously as possible. I shot for about an hour before I got this picture of her looking at her mom. For a long time, I've wanted to get a candid shot of her because she has such expressive eyes. Thanks to Joe for a challenge theme that finally spurred me to do it.
