7th place Heads or tails?*
by Olaf.dk

A photo expressing a 50-50 chance.

OK, so this is not the first image in this challenge on heads and tails, but perhaps the most literal interpretation?

In lack of my EOS10D (in for AF-calibration), I had to shoot this with my G2 and put it here in the exhibition gallery. The hardest part in taking this photo was getting a black enough background which wouldn't overexpose from the multiple flashbursts. I didn't quite succeed in that department and got underexposed coins and an overexposed background. Had to fix the coin/background ratio in photoshop afterwards. [Had I had more time, I could have shot this at a different location, with a long distance to the background. That would have allowed for a more balanced exposure.]

Granted, the head-side of the coin isn't very clear, but I thought it was kind of neat how the two instances of seeing the coin straight-on (second and fifth flash-burst, not counting the faint one in my hand) are indeed heads and tails, respectively. I also liked the zig-zaging pattern between the rising and falling coin. Finally, I was very happy to have a straight-on view of the coin as it reached its peak. --Olaf

Exactly what I wanted to do with my Rebel and Sigma DG Super I got couple of days ago. I even figured out the multi flash mode but was too tired to do anything else...
I think I would've gone with just two sides of the coin.
