Speed
by Madison Waud

San Diego, CA

This is a picture of my hot wheels car jumping off the track.
This is my first entry into a photo challenge. I am 6 years old.

I used my very own digital camera (a Veo Capture 1300).

I got the idea to take this picture after watching my Dad
try to make a picture for the movie "Speed". He helped me enter my picture.

Here is his photo if you want to take a look.

I would very much like your comments. Thank you!

Oops... silly me. Did I say Cameron? I meant Madison, of course. Sorry for the confusion. At least I remember my own daughter's name most of the time - it's Zoe.

Hi Cameron. It's so nice that you're in the gallery too! I bet it was fun to take pictures of the hotwheels. It's pretty cool that your dad and you both like taking pictures. Maybe I can get my daughter to ask Santa for a camera for Christmas.

Her name is Katja and I still think she is 5 1/2 but she always reminds me that now she's 5 3/4 - Here's a picture of her (trying to dig for oil, I thinkhttp://www.pbase.com/image/22735694

Hope to see more pictures from you soon.

Ooooh... Hot Wheels! When I was in elementary school I had more Hot Wheels than anyone else in the school - I had 54 cars and 6 trucks. I still have them. I thought maybe they'd be collector's items when I grew up. I also got my first camera in elementary school. It cost 99 cents! Ok, yes, that means I'm old but even then 99 cents was CHEAP! I used to take a book out of the library called "Trick Photography". It showed things like having a ballerina stand far away and a boy stand close, holding out his hand, and if you get the camera at just the right angle, it looks like a tiny ballerina standing in his hand! That's the only thing I rememember about the book though.

I bet you'll become a really good photographer because you're already thinking about taking fancy shots like the nice one you posted here. Most people just take pictures of their friends and family, and maybe Micky Mouse, if they visit Disneyworld. You are very creative!

Congratulations on your first contest entry. I bet it won't be your last! :)

Welcome aboard!!! ~ Lonnit

Madison, your photo fits the title well. It conveys a sense of speed, as well as matching a scene from the movie. It's too bad there is so much color noise. If you convert it to black-and-white, it would look better. --Garrett

Madison – Great picture, I loved my hot wheels cars when I was your age when they first came out, but I never got to use them for entering a challenge like this. I like the motion effect in your shot. Keep up the good work, I wish I had started doing this when I was your age, because you will be staking better shots than me in no time. Gene Atwood

Hi Madison,
Just a few words to tell you your picture is being seen around the world including in Belgium, a small European country where I leave.
You can ask your Daddy to locate it on a map.
Congratulations for your shot and your will to participate.

Welcome to the challenges! Now, I hope your dad won't be sad, but I think your speed photo is the most intriguing of the two! The criss-crossing of lines is a neat composition and the fact that it is not really obvious what it is, makes this photo interesting. Keep up the good work! Now what do you think of mine http://www.pbase.com/image/23126603]? -- Olaf

Hi Madison. Between you and your Dad I think you had a pretty good concept with this shot. I'm not too familiar with your equipment of choice, but I think you're starting to outgrow it already. Perhaps if you asked Dad nicely, he might care to buy you an upgrade, perhaps a nice Point and Shoot camera like a Canon A80 or G5 for Christmas (sorry Dad LOL). I think this would help you give you the artistic freedom you need and not be held back by technical limitations.

True enough, pixel count isn't everything, but I'm sure you'd enjoy getting some decent sized prints of your work and such an upgrade would help you achieve just that. Best of luck and I hope you enter some more challenges :-)

Madison, I must say this is a wonderful effort for a girl your age!! Photography is a very grown up hobby you have chosen. I like the motion effect for speed with the little car. Neat idea!! Your creativity shines through and this is a wonderful example of it.

I hope you come back and join our challenges again!! Always nice to see budding new talent. angela :)
