Funny Story!!! Even with a soft focus I still love this shot (perfect timing to get this picture). I really envy people who can go out that these kinds of shots. Being able to shoot animals is a real challenge. Kind of like candids of children, somehow they will do everything in their power NOT to be shot.
Scott, This guy was totally playing with our heads. He had us wrapped around that finger he's sucking! LOL! And yes, focus is most definitely soft. See, that's what happens when you throw on a 75-300 expecting to need to pull those distant animals close to you, and then the ape totally makes a fool of you by leaning against the glass right in front of you!! The crowd was right there with him and I was trying to lean as far back from him as I could, while still trying to keep my feet in place to hold my space open so the people wouldn't fill in in front of me and block my shot! LOL! I need to be about 6' away with that lens and I could barely make it! It was an incredible experience! I was so ticked though b/c here's all these people that wouldn't get out of my way for the shot, and after I take it I put my hand up against the glass to see if he'd respond in same (like he was doing with a child a moment earlier), and the moment I did the crowd turned nasty with "Hey - we're trying to take pictures... MOVE!!!"! Grrrrr... So, I consider myself very fortunate to have gotten as good a shot as I did.
This is a nice shot...it looks likes he is coming up with some kind of an idea or at least deep in thought. Only comment (*) is that the ape appears to be a little soft focused (I saw your tiger shot which is also awesome and very sharp). Maybe a smaller aperture or faster shutter would have sharpened it up a bit.
This is still an awesome shot.

Great "pose" capture!! Reminds me of an "Austin Powers" pose, like when he's embarrassed about .. ahem... flatulence. ;) Nice use of DOF and space, and I love the way this goes with the title :) angela :)
