Casablanca
j trujillo

You must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss
A sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by

And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you."
On this you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by

*Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
On this you can deny

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

Jim (and others): Julio's image got tangled up in a point of debate between me and iso. Civlian casualty in an otherwise civil debate. Net: The image is posted in the right gallery, a point we all seem to agree on. --Joe Reilly

Hmm.... fill me in... why wouldn't this be considered in Eligible??? This perfectly meets the theme, maybe I missed a rule...

I just watched Casablanca for the first time 6 months ago. I'm forcing myself to rent fromt he Classics section rather than the hyped up new releases.

Very nicely done.

Hi Julio, I think we'll move this back to eligible and let the voters decide for themselves yes?

Please move this back. Unless it does not meet the date or camera requirements, this should be in eligible. It fits the theme wonderfully. -Earl Waud

Please don't move it!! It's wonderful, and in exhibition, I think it fits fine. angela :)

Upon reflection, moved here since it really had nothing to do with the title, per se. Hmm... maybe it should also be moved from here :) Let me know if you think so.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
I've had this B&W print from Casablanca for about 20 years - it's also one of my all-time favorite movies. Many people associate the movie with the airport scene at the end but for me this photo captures the essence of the movie. When this challenge started I knew I had to do something with it. During the first few shots I put just the wine glass or it and the bottle on the mantle lighting it in various ways. It wasn't until after 20 shots or so that it occured to me that a ghostly hand pouring in counterpoint to "Rick" would be more appropriate for the nostalgia I wanted to convey.

The choice of glasses could have been better but the choice of red wine over the champagne in the movie was purely personal. The total exposure time was 20 seconds and I tried 3 different times with the hand and bottle - 5s, 8s and 10s - I liked 8s best.

j Trujillo – Very nice, well done. Like the idea from previous post of two glass’s, maybe even matching the one in the picture more closely.

REALLY well done!! I loved this movie and I think what you have done here is a great "tribute", almost like the preparation of a charge of glasses for a toast. I like how you have the bottle and your hand in.. How long did you hold that in there? Excellent work. angela :)

Maybe two glasses, if you are an optimist. -Earl Waud

J,
This is absolutely fabulous. Casablanca is one of my all time favorite movies. It was the first title that popped into my head with the challenge was announced, and I've been wondering how to do it justice. I think your interpretation is nearly perfect. I think the only thing that could have made it better is if you had a glass that matched the one in the print. Still I really like your entry. -Earl Waud
