The Watcher in the Woods
by Angela Holder

One of my favorite movies from my childhood.
Disney's The Watcher in the Woods was one of the scariest movies I'd seen
in my 8 years of life. Now as an adult it still stays with me and I watch it often.

Taken in the middle of a forest where there were beautiful fall colors around.
Not quite the menacing mood I was looking for, so I toned it to a slight sepia B&W in PS.
No other PS work except framing. The original color image can be seen here

The man in the photo is my husband,
who was really great with helping me out with this.

Great shot!
I have never heard about the movie but apparently you are still making nightmares about it. Scary husband too ;-)

The viewer can't escape the sense that the "watcher" has his eyes aimed directly into theirs. The B&W touch fits perfectly as the woods are not the main subject...the man is.--Al Pacheco

Excellent work, getting the trees and foliage to be white and grey, with the subject black. Agree with comments about the sinister look. - Ed Hahn

Will you tell him to stop looking at me, he's scaring me! lol Great shot! Has a touch of voyeur and a touch of stalking. The mood to go along with it. Spooks me anyway.

Excellent photograph. Portrays and erie mood. I like the IR-like effect you used in the photograph. Very well composed.

This is a great comp and the technique you've applied to give the IR effect is very well done indeed. Your hubby plays the part well, he gives the pic a sinister edge.

Great mood to this shot, I like it in B&W and the white leaves with your husband in black. Works beautifully..... Vikas

I love this shot...the color shot is great too (the layer of color leaves is great)...This image work great for your title. Just like one of those long walks in the forest when you hear sound and turn quickly. There he is...all you need now is the dramatic music and your are set :)

Thanks! But this isn't quite IR. The D60 can't do infrared. Actually the color of the leaves were so orange and so red that when I used the channel mixer to convert to B&W, they changed to near white. Which was almost exactly what I was looking for. angela :)

Really like the contrast of his black outfit with the IR trees. Good one. Ann
