Even dolls need to remember the elderly as we head into winter...

Hi Phil,

Definitely better. And the spirit of the challenges are to help us improve, so helping each other is what it's about. So, it would be perfectly ok to put a b/w version in. But this contrasted version really hits it better. Nice job!

Thanks Jim.
Indeed you are correct that a little tweaking of the levels and brightness/contrast has improved the image - as shown here now.
I do have a version in b/w which also works quite well, but thought replacing it with that would not be in the correct spririt (it seems like too much of a change).

Hi Phil,

I think it's so interesting how we creat images to something that is sensitive to us. I'm guessing here, but I suspect that elderly plight is a part of your job, a volunteer effort, or that it has touch someone close to you. I wonder this because without the title, I don't think I would have seen an elderly person alone, but someone enjoying a quiet night alone.

It demonstrates how important titles and text can be for photos. Some photos speak for themselves and others are brought meaning through words. Neither is better than the other, photojournalism is all about the words and the photo.

I love this idea, and the composition is perfect. I'd maybe suggest using some levels/curves to brighten and contrast the image, and maybe try it in black and white.

A very powerful message. Great idea.
