I hope that this works. I have read explanations of negative space and looked at many examples. It seems that negative space is quite subjective, defined by the artist's own interpretation. The background (the negative space) in this shot, in my opinion, does not detract from the subject, it is not on the same focal plane as the subject, and it takes on shapes or patterns.
