You're welcome Charlie. I can see the difference. Highly coloured subjects pose a problem for the camera's metering system, as the total amount of light mightn't be that high, but if most of it is in one channel, blown out hightlights result. I have forgotten whether the 20D can display a full histogram for each channel, but that's the best way to check. Regards, Michael

I have turned down the red channel a bit, and that did bring some detail back into the head and breast. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks, Michael. I think that section of the bird is simply out of the focus range. I did not make any adjustments to the colors, so this is the actual degree of color and brightness of the bird. But I will take a look tonight, and see if I can bring back any detail. I am not yet up to shooting in RAW format, so my choices will be limited.

That's quite a bird Charlie and the focus is accurately placed on the eye. Can I suggest that the red channel might be over-exposed, leading to the milky effect in the crest. If this was shot in raw I would try reducing the exposure. Regards, Michael
