Thanks Bob! Some say that Olaf is a derivative of Ulf, which means Wolf, but I am not big and I am not bad... Seriously, I do get your point, and I agree. Just to set the record straight: the subjects are my niece and son.

This is terrific Olaf and I do agree with your thoughts on this. Although the foreground tree seems, on one hand to 'intrude' yet on the other hand it really does add depth to the composition.

It almost feels like the 'big bad wolf' lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce!

Ahem.... I'm not suggesting that you are that fabled creature Olaf... lol

Regards Bob

Thank you for your comments and suggestions - always appreciated!

With the subject in the dead center I know that, in theory, this should be better cropped and I did try various crops before posting, but in the end I found the crops to lack something compared to the original, un-cropped version of the shot. I think the foreground, including the tree trunk, adds depth to the shot. In my view, the sense of depth plays a key role in the succes of this composition.

Ditto regarding the first two comments. Beautiful shot, but I would be curious to see how it looks with the tree and a little of the foreground cropped. Regards, Michael

I agree with Trav. I'd crop out the tree in the left foreground as I find it distracting.

Gosh this is good! The angle of view, the almost perfect subject matter, the green....just great. Traveller
