Hi Olaf, the Race Track is located in a remote part of Death Valley National Park in California. Summer temperature can reach 120 degrees F. There are rocks on the dry lake, with trails left behind them. The current theory is that, when it rains and the lake bed becomes wet and slippery, strong winds push the rocks and leave a trail.
To the best of my knowledge, no one has actually seen this happen. Death Valley so rarely gets precipitation (about 2" of rain a year) that the odds of proper conditions are extremely small. - Paul

Makes me wonder - and hungry for further explanation!
