Travel(s)

I owned this aircraft for twenty years
(until I sold it a few months ago).
Being an aviator opened a new dimension
in life to me (pun intended), but what I
really am proud of is how much of Europe
and Northern Africa I "discovered" on my
frequent travels with this plane: what I
learned when visiting so many different
places has most probably made me as
knowledgeable about the world we live in
as all the books I have read together...

Pops: Yes, I know we do not only belong to the same generation and are both involved in photography, but share as well our fascination for flying (and travelling, though we might not agree on our favourite means of transport). There are many dear friends of mine I do not have as much in common with... Many thanks for your friendly words!

Lydia: I'm not sure I understand what your husband is jealous of. Owning a–as Traveller points out–*small* single engine aircraft is no merit: all you need is some money (which I had not even earned—*that* possibly might have offered grounds for jealousy!—but only inherited). Being an aviator, though, is a completely different matter: for that you invest your time and dedication, but the learning process is enriching and rewarding (you do not only acquire the skill necessary to control your machine, but broaden your horizon with expertise on so different matters as are aerodynamics and mechanics or cartography and meteorology, to name just a few). But that's nothing to be jealous of: I can't see any reason why your husband should not be able to learn all that himself... Thank you for commenting!

Traveller: I *really* am proud you came back to this image of mine. And your words make me sense you have a mixed bag of feelings: some fear of flying in a small aircraft (BTW: the aerodynamics governing flight are, of course, exactly the same ones as in a big airliner...) and, OTOH, fascination with the "technology" (I just quote your own word) and probably *flight* as such. You should learn to fly yourself in order to satisfy the attraction you seem to experience; maybe together with Lydia's husband?? Anyway: I definitely do appreciate your commenting (and your—let's not forget the reason for our coinciding here—amiable critique of my photograph)!

Let us all look at this fine...truthful...photograph again....This darned flying thingy is SMALL....I mean seriously, look at the pilot and place yourself in the passenger seat...it is small....lol.

But a beautiful, beautiful piece of equipment and technology to be certain.

Best Wishes, Traveller

Daniel, as you probably know, I have an affinity for airplanes. I derive such joy when I'm flying my models. So, of course I like this. I can understand your pride in flying and how it's impacted your life. Thanks for sharing that with us.

It comes to no surprise to me that someone with a "handle" like yours, Traveller, feels attracted to a picture with a title like this... Flying, BTW, is *absolutely nothing* to be scared of (if a careful and well trained pilot flies a properly maintained aircraft); I am, inversely, scared of driving a car or riding a motorcycle on the road. Thanks for your kind remark! -- db.

Now that is Cool....! Of course, flying in small planes scares the death out of me...but, undoubtedly cool. Traveller
