Thank you all :) A imited palette and plentyful repetition of a few elements is some of the magic here, I think. In addition to whatever might be hiding of subliminal messages in those trunks and branches :)

Trust Kiki to break all the rules and still make the image work....and maybe work better than it would in a conventional treatment. I live this. Best Wishes, Traveller

Interesting "mess" Kiki! I like the DOF here with some things in focus and others OOF - gives a real sense of depth! :-) CJ

This one fascinates me. My eyes wander all over...seeing interesting things in focus and out of focus. The leaves catching the sunlight really catches my attention. ~dtallakson

Absolutely correct Olaf.... It seems there may be a few issues here that actually work together...?

It is 'busy' and that usually is a distractor but in this case the clarity of the individual bits of 'busy...ness' and the colours help to isolate it from the background.

I think also that the unusual crop bordered by just horizontal components of a frame actually direct the observer to study this as if peeping through a post box... ( a habit, you should be pleased to note I have since weened mysef off...lol)

... and K2, I like your title... I actually had one of those brief moments of sanity and understanding... ;-)

Nice crop. You really have an eye for compostion! I can't put a finger on why this works so well, but there is something "Zen" over it, in spite of the "mess". Anyone else?

Thanks again, Melbob, glad you like it. It's a lousy crop lol.. A real pano is a good idea. Must try.

This is terrific too K2... I'm trying to work out whether this is a stitch or a crop... damn good either way. Nice crisp detail and lovely collection of colours and textures.

They're *very* old, the remnants of an orchard from centuries ago, I believe. They threaten to fall apart now, full of moss and whatnots. One tree is hollow, birds nest there in the spring :)
