Thanks CJ, these are Red River Gum Trees (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) which are common in southern Australia especially along river banks. They are dangerous in that they can drop large boughs without warning and with possible catastrophic consequences.

We learn never to camp under one of these nor park your car under one of its branches.

I photographed these in a local park just 5 minutes drive from my place, or more appropriately, a good bicycle ride to and through this park. (I'm feeling guilty already... )

Wonderful massive trees with lots of texture. Are these Ghost Gums Bob? I remember some trees something like these being pointed out when we were on a camel ride in the Outback. CJ
