Redpolls have been coming here for the last several years during the winter 2008-2009. They are an "irruptive" species- not usually common this far south. They have arrived in big flocks and seem to be more susceptible to disease such as Salmonella, at least at feeders. These are Comon Redpolls, though there seem to be occasionally a Hoary Redpoll or two mixed in. Hoarys are even less likely to come this far South.
