This is a bit of melted snow/water that goes into a culvert under the trail where the snake was found alive on Christmas Day.. The snake was about 6 feet from here. It looked like it's tail might have been injured. I wonder if some creature had found it IN the culvert and pulled it out. My walk with 2 dogs may have interrupted this event, though I saw no evidence of footprints . I did hear a Raven nearby. I'm sorry I didn't get a shot of it alive, or find a way to rescue it.
