Okay, first I merged images 03 and 04 into their own layer. Under that layer was the original simplified image (image 02). Then, using masking I put a black-to-transparent mask over the image so that one side showed the look of image 02 with it merging into the merged 03-04 image (the previous image). Was the brown what I wanted? See the next image....
