dream or nightmare?

Things are disjointed, dark, gloomy, out of proportion. Nothing is at it seems. Is this just a bad dream? Or is this my reality? Even the sky cries tears of disappointment and pain.

To make this image, I used 4 different pictures: the sky, the ground, turtle and the castle. I put them together in the usual cut and paste manner. Then I started playing with filters and gradients. I honestly can't remember all the steps, but there are at least 12 layers of adjustments on this. I kept playing with it, adding and subtracting things until it felt right. This is one of my "art as therapy" pieces.

I have lots of thoughts about this strange and intriguing image. First of all, it's very well put together The turtle, sky, and tower look as though you came upon this setting and took a photograph of it. Well done. The turtle, whom normally means wisdom to me, seems sluggish and the foreboding sky is pressing down on it giving me the feeling of discouragement. But yet, there seems to be a sense of contemplation in it's demeanor . Also, the subdued color enhances the emotional impact.

Oh my, Kitten---an image reeking of sorrow, gloom, disappointment, yet with a glow in the back suggesting hope. So powerful and so compelling; (at the moment in my sick bed it sorta represents the way I feel too)
