June Bug

I have no idea what this is.

It looks like the love child of a fly, a bee, and an ant.
Any suggestions?

Bad storms here this evening, but all is peaceful now and the sky is clear; I can see the stars.

So glad you found out what it was, Carmen. What a fascinating insect. I saw this post this morning, but had no idea. I think it is beautiful in its own way.

This is a cukoo wasp, Carmen. They are parasitic on other insects. You often see them poking around holes in masonry, dry wood, etc. They are solitary - DON'T have large nests of many individuals - and not particulary aggressive. There are a number of species, usually metallic blue-green with pitted body surface. Very hard. There have been a couple of images of them on PBase in the last several weeks. Nice shot!
