Day 50

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

America the Beautiful, verse 4
Katharine Lee Bates, 1913

From the Washington Post, today:

A chance meeting with Leahy, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, became an argument about Cheney's ties to Halliburton Co., an international energy services corporation, and President Bush's judicial nominees. The exchange ended when Cheney offered some crass advice.

"Fuck yourself," said the man who is a heartbeat from the presidency.

As it happens, the exchange occurred on the same day the Senate passed legislation described as the "Defense of Decency Act" by 99 to 1.

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
-Francis Scott Key 1814

(The question mark is increasingly significant.)

Michael Moore's "Farenheit 9/11" opens here today.

It's good to know that not all Americans are jingoistic flag-waving blind-followers. It is good to know that there are some who see through Bush, and who are prepared to speak out against him. The world needs to know that you exist... it gives the rest of us, those with no say (because we are not Americans) some hope. Thank you.

Carmen it's nice to find a kindred spirit. I love what you wrote to accompany your post tonight. Again, thanks for your rant on my image the other day - it made me feel like I had some company.

Nice shot tonight. It almost looks like you're looking over your shoulder at...who? The bad guys? Dickie?
Hmmm... And this weekend Michael Moore gets my money too!

NICE! I hope thousands of people go to see Fahrenheit 911! The more people that go, the more awareness, the beter chance of getting Bush OUT of the white house in November!!

Yes! What hypocrisy! I love the watching eyes. Democracy can only thrive when the populace is aware and informed. Well done!
