South-Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia east to Ethiopia, Kenya, DR Congo, Northeast-Angola and Tanzania.

Cossypha niveicapilla niveicapilla - South-Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia to Nigeria, Sudan and West-Ethiopia;
Cossypha niveicapilla melanonota - South-Cameroon to West-Kenya, Tanzania and Northeast-Angola.
