Plains Zebra (Common Zebra) - Equus quagga - Steppezebra
From South-Sudan and South-Ethiopia to Angola, Namibia and northern South-Africa.

The following 6 subspecies are being recognized:
Equus quagga crawshaii - Zambia, Malawi, Southeast-Tanzania and North-Mozambique;
Equus quagga borensis - Northwest-Kenya, North-Uganda and Southeast-South Sudan;
Equus quagga boehmi - South-Ethiopia; East- and South-Kenya to Zambia;
Equus quagga chapmani - Northeast-South Africa to Zimbabwe, Botswana, Caprivi Strip (Namibia) and Southeast-Angola;
Equus quagga burchellii - Southwest-Angola, Namibia and South-Botswana to Kwazulu-Natal (South Africa);
Equus quagga quagga - Formerly Southwest-South Africa; extinct since 1880s.
