Asiatic Wild Ass - Equus hemionus - Onager
Scattered populations in Asia Minor to Central-Asia.
The following 5 subspecies are being recognized:
Equus hemionus hemionus - South-Mongolia extending into North-China;
Equus hemionus hemippus - formerly Syria and Arabian Peninsula. Extinct since 1927;
Equus hemionus khur - Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat (India);
Equus hemionus kulan - Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan;
Equus hemionus onager - Iran (Touran and Bahram-E-Goor), Israel (Negev) and Saudi Arabia (Taïf).
