The following 3 subspecies are being recognized:
Quiscalus quiscula versicolor - South- and Southeast-Canada (east of Rockies) to Central- and Northeast-USA;
Quiscalus quiscula stonei - East-USA (Southwest Conn. to Alabama and North-Georgia. Winters to Florida);
Quiscalus quiscula quiscula - Southeast-USA (South-Louisiana to eastern South-Carolina and Florida Keys).
