The following 4 subspecies are being recognized:
Eurystomus glaucurus aethiopicus - Ethiopia;
Eurystomus glaucurus afer - Senegal and Gambia to North-DR Congo and Sudan;
Eurystomus glaucurus suahelicus - South Somalia to Uganda, North-Zambia, Angola, Mozambique and Northeast-South Africa;
Eurystomus glaucurus glaucurus - Madagascar. Non-breeding visitor to East-Africa.
